What is Yoga Therapy?
Yoga Therapy is individual, customized yoga designed to bring about a specific change. Working together, the teacher and student identify the issue or issues that are causing dukham (pain, suffering), then the teacher designs a course of practice that may include āsana, prānāyāma, meditation, and Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle changes, to help remove the dukham and bring the student into a healthier and more balanced state. In Western terms, Yoga Therapy might be considered a blend of solution-focused yoga practice and health coaching.
Who Can Benefit from Yoga Therapy?
We currently serve students who are experiencing musculoskeletal issues, such as injuries, issues, and diseases of the muscles, joints, and spine, as well as students interested in improving their overall wellness according to the principles of Ayurveda.
How Does Yoga Therapy Work?
Our first meeting is an in-depth consultation. We’ll discuss your health history and current health habits. Please bring your medical reports and imaging (x-ray, MRI, etc.), if available. Based on our discussion, the yoga therapist will design a practice completely customized for your needs and goals.
In your first practice session, you will be taught your practice, provided a printed copy, and advised about how to build it into your daily routine.
At each following session, you’ll update your therapist about the results you’ve experienced, then she’ll make adjustments to the practice to help you keep working toward your goals. Sessions are typically scheduled as follows:
Week 1 - Consultation
Week 2 - First Session
Week 3 - Second Session
Week 5-7 - Third Session
Week 9-15 - Fourth Session
