CYNTHIA

Cynthia has been practicing yoga for most of her life, drifting away from time to time, but always finding her way back. She took her first formal class in the late ‘80s as a way to exercise and manage stress. While she had always felt clumsy and uncoordinated in sports and physical activities, Cynthia found that as she learned to listen to her body and move more mindfully her feeling of awkwardness began to disappear. As she grew more comfortable in her physical body, her outlook and emotional state shifted as well. This began a deep interest in the healing power of connecting to the body and loving the body that you have. Working as a psychotherapist at the time, Cynthia used these lessons to help her clients who were struggling with childhood abuse and body image issues.

Through the years, yoga has been a touchstone for Cynthia. Following those early classes she married, moved several times, raised 3 children, shifted jobs, and experienced the usual ups and downs of living a life. As she aged, her changing body created new ways to think and learn from yoga. A diagnosis of Osteoporosis led to a greater desire for challenging, strength-building postures. A second diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma deepened her passion for yoga; as she found it essential in managing the physical and psychological challenges of her cancer. Through all of these changes, Cynthia practiced yoga to stay centered and connected to herself.

Cynthia completed Hatha/Hatha Flow teacher training with YogaYoga in Austin, TX in 2019. She is certified with Yoga Alliance as a 200-hour registered yoga teacher. In her classes Cynthia focuses on moving mindfully and being attentive to the changing sensations in breath, body and mind. She enjoys helping students find acceptance for themselves and joy in their practice.
