Katie has been practicing yoga for over 20 years. She originally began attending yoga classes as a way to reduce stress and anxiety during her teenage years. Katie is a native Texan and grew up in Houston. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications. After college she moved to Austin and began a career in Financial Marketing. She loves traveling and fully embraces other cultures and cuisines. She also loves cooking and gardening with her family.
In 2006 she married her college sweetheart Thomas and they quickly began to expand their family. It was during Katie’s first pregnancy while attending weekly prenatal yoga classes that she fell even deeper in love with yoga and renewed her commitment to her personal yoga practice. A few years after welcoming both of her children and embracing her new life as a stay at home mom she realized something was missing in her life, a deeper understanding of yoga. In February of 2018 she received her 200 Hour RYT certification focusing on Hatha Flow through Yoga Yoga. For the past year she has been teaching private lessons along with a weekly candlelight yoga class at a local fitness studio.
She is excited to begin her journey at The Yoga Room with The Mindfulness for Kids Series. As a substitute teacher at her children’s elementary school Katie has been able to teach yoga, mindfulness, and meditation as a way to refocus children throughout the school day. Katie has a passion for teaching children of all ages how to use mindfulness techniques to calm, quiet, and refocus the mind enabling them to demonstrate kindness to themselves and others. She enjoys linking breath to movement throughout her classes and loves the challenge of balance poses. She believes all people can greatly benefit from yoga and meditation and also believes that if you have the ability to breathe, you have the ability to practice yoga. Katie’s favorite part about being a yoga teacher is being able to give the gift of regular yoga practice to others, positively enhancing their lives, and the lives of those around them.
