COVID-19

India Update from Zelinda

As you may know, I was scheduled to travel to India last Thursday to begin the second module of my Yoga Therapy Program.

Publicly, I hadn't said much about my upcoming trip because of all the Coronavirus news and the uncertainty around international travel. I found myself telling students, friends, and family, that I was scheduled to travel on March 5th, unless something happened to prevent me from traveling.

And at the last minute (on Thursday morning), I made the difficult decision to cancel my trip. The deciding factor was, with the way the number of infections was escalating on a daily basis (and still is), I had no way to know what the situation might be on April 6th, when I was scheduled to fly back. Would I be allowed to fly to the US? Would I be quarantined? I have young children and couldn't risk a potential delayed return after having been away for a month already.

I have been in contact with my teachers in India and we will figure out a plan so that I (and four other classmates who were unable to travel) can make up our work.

So, I just wanted to let you know that I'm safely still here in town. I'd organized teachers to sub my classes during my absence, and as much as possible I'm going to request that they teach as planned so I can use this time to study my Yoga Therapy materials, and also so I can polish up our Yoga Teacher Training program which begins on April 18th.

I look forward to seeing you soon. Please practice good hand washing!

STUDIO UPDATE: Staying Healthy During COVID-19

We're continuing to monitor the news and assess our COVID-19 prevention strategies, and today we'd like to share a couple of updates about what we're doing to try to keep our yoga community safe and healthy. Here's a short summary of what we announced last week:

  • We’re sanitizing all frequently used hard surfaces at the start of each shift

  • We’ve removed eye pillows from our classrooms and sanitizing our blocks daily.

  • Teachers are reminding students to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer after each class.

  • All of our staff has been encouraged to stay home and rest if they feel ill.

New precautions:

  • We've put away the Community Cups that have been available on our water dispenser.

  • If you've brought your personal mug to the studio to keep on our shelf, please take it home for the time being.

  • Bring your personal water bottle to the studio if possible.

  • If you forget your water bottle, we've ordered disposable/recyclable cups that you can use.

  • Please only fill clean/sanitized containers from our water dispenser.

And here are some extra tips to keep yourself and our community healthy:

  • If you’re ill, please stay home and rest.

  • Consider bringing your own props.

  • Consider bringing a pillowcase or two to cover our props, then wash your pillowcase(s) when you get home.

  • Wash your hands well and frequently, especially after being in public places.

  • Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands.

  • If you’re immunocompromised, you might prefer to practice yoga from home using videos from our YouTube Channel. You can subscribe to our channel to be notified of new videos.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
