A little about us (Nice to meet you!)

This being January, we have a lot of new folks coming into the studio and signing up for this newsletter, so I thought it would be a good time to (re)introduce myself and tell you a little bit about The Yoga Room.

My name is Zelinda; I'm the founder of The Yoga Room. I've been practicing yoga for 20 years and I started teaching 10 years ago. You can read more about my background here. I opened The Yoga Room in 2010, and over the years, we've added a staff of excellent teachers and a very kind and welcoming reception team.

At The Yoga Room, our philosophy is Yoga for EveryBody. We offer yoga classes and workshops to suit all kinds of bodies and all kinds of goals. Our classes are simply organized into three types based on physical intensity: Gentle, Moderate, and Strong. Our workshops span a variety of topics to help you deepen your practice.

What special about our studio and our teaching is that we focus on adapting the practice to the practitioner, rather than the other way around. Our students range in age from 5 - 90, with every type of body imaginable.

Some of our students use wheelchairs, some have knee or back issues that prevent them from getting down onto the floor, some have wrist, elbow or shoulder issues that prevent them from bearing weight on their hands, some have difficulty balancing, some live with chronic pain.

We believe every student can practice and benefit from yoga, it's just a matter of finding the right practice. And with our diverse staff of teachers, we help our students find the right practice.

We welcome you to our community and look forward to getting to know you better. Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, comments, or feedback.

All my best,

Zelinda

It's Time for a Yoga Staycation!

It's been a busy few weeks since our last newsletter, and I sure have missed you! I hope you're doing great! This week I'm really excited to announce a fresh new offering from The Yoga Room! Coming up April 2 & 3, Angela and I will be hosting TYR's first Yoga Staycation.

You've heard of staycations before. More than just a stay-at-home vacation, ours is a stay-at-home yoga retreat!

The theme of our April Yoga Staycation is Relaxation for Health and Healing. It's meant for people who are at a place in their life where they know they need to get their stress under control and take better care of themselves. You can read more about it here. Please note that space is limited, so if you're interested in joining us please register soon to secure your spot.

Aside from the Staycation, things are great at TYR. We just launched our 2016 Yoga Teacher Training program over the weekend, and our 2015 Trainees graduate next month! It's not too early to start thinking about Teacher Training in 2017. You can read about that here. Please note that beginning in 2017, we will offer our 200 hour Training only every other year. Stay tuned next week for the announcement about what we're offering in even numbered years. :)

And lastly, I'm offering a workshop on the Yamas and Niyamas (yoga ethics) this Saturday. I love yoga philosophy, and the Yamas and Niyamas provide endless food for thought. There are only a couple of spots remaining. If you'd like to join me, you can register here.

I hope you have a great day and I look forward to seeing you soon!

XO, Zelinda
